The Story of Three Little Pigs

Meet Wilbur, Charlotte and Max.

Wilbur and Charlotte were rescued when their previous family experienced the unfortunate loss of their home and could no longer keep them.  I took them in and have come to love their quirky personalities.  Wilbur loves to be scratched.  He will lie down and soak up the tummy rubs and snorts for attention.  Charlotte is a bit more reserved, but with quiet coaxing, loves having her back scratched.

Max showed up one fall evening.  My neighbor called to inform me that my pigs were loose.  Confused, I checked to find them safely locked up.  What had my neighbor seen?  I searched the property but ultimately decided that he had seen a small bear or dog despite his adamant claim “I know a pig when I see a pig”.

The following day my older daughter called to inform me that “there’s a pig in the yard”, and ask “what should I do?”  “Catch if of course”, I replied. Resourceful as she is, the pig was captured.  Unable to figure out where he came from, Max took up residence with Wilbur and Charlotte.  The three are now fast friends.

Despite internet claims that pigs stay small and make great house pets, they do need lots of space, love rooting around, and appreciate companionship.  They spend their days lounging in the sun, searching for scrub to eat or just rooting around.  They come when called and are ALWAYS enthusiastic for meals and attention.

Do you think you would like a little pig too?  Consider rescue.  Every day pigs are either found abandoned in the woods or desperately seeking a new home as the novelty wears off quickly for many people.  They are cute, friendly and smart, but don’t be fooled into believing that they will fit in a purse for long.
